Gurugram Gears Up for Crucial Municipal Elections: What to Expect on March 2, 2025

The stage is set for one of the most crucial elections in Gurugram’s civic governance. On March 2, 2025, voters will head to the polls to elect their municipal leaders who will shape the city’s future for the next five years. With new ward delimitations, direct party-backed mayoral candidates, and significant reservation changes, this election marks a significant shift in the way local governance operates.
Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) elections.
An integral part of our civic governance is the smooth running of local urban bodies, our municipalities. The urban local body for the Gurugram sub-district is the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram which runs parallel with four other tehsils i.e. Manesar, Pataudi, Farrukh Nagar and Sohna in the district of Gurugram.
The state of Haryana announced the elections across 33 local bodies in the state to be held on 2nd March 2025. In addition to Gurugram, the municipal bodies of Manesar, Pataudi-Jatauli Mandi and Farrukhnagar will also hold their elections with Sohna just with bye-election for the post of President of its Municipal Council on the same day across all their wards. Manesar is going to polls across 20 wards for the first time since its formation away from Gurugram.
Ward Delimitation and Reservation
The Municipal jurisdiction of Gurugram forms its Council every five years with an elected body of Municipal Councillors headed by the Mayor. The body will have its much-awaited elections with new ward delimitations of 36 wards. The last elections were held in September 2017. The term of MCG Council ended in 2022, but the polls were delayed primarily due to the pending delimitation exercise, which has now been completed.
The Urban Local Bodies Department, Haryana announced the Final list of New Ward structure designed by ad-hoc committee in December 2023 based on the consensus by Parivaar Pehchan Patra data.
Unlike in the past, the candidature for the Mayor seat will be fielded by the political parties directly, simultaneous to the ward-wise councillor seat candidates. Direct public voting by the electoral will decide on the elected Mayor, reserved for Women from BC-A category.
In Gurgaon, the draw for reservation across wards was held in January 2024 resulting with women seats reserved across 12 wards, general category candidates in 21 wards and 3 wards for SC and BC category.

Final List of 9 lakh voters was published by the district administration on January 6, 2025. The electoral process will be held across 905 booths in Gurugram
The nominations for MCG elections will be done between 11 February to 17 February and final list of contestants will be published on 19 February 2025. The Mayor position contestants will submit their nominations papers at the Additional Deputy Commissioner office while the ward contestants will fill their papers with the assigned officers

The final list of candidates contesting for municipal membership and mayoral seays in the elections has been released on the State Election Commission website.
